What is unique about MAUSA Health & Fitness Center?
We focus on the development of the entire individual, not just the physical abilities.

We teach all of our classes — children through adults — in a way that is developmentally appropriate and age specific. While most schools are run by black belts, there is a big difference between knowing Martial Arts, and knowing how to teach Martial Arts. We combine both at the highest level.

Can I keep my current rank from another style/school?
Some skills will definitely be transferable and other skills will have to be picked up here. When you come in to the dojo we can evaluate you over the course of a few classes and rank you according to where you fit into our curriculum. However, it is with in our tradition to test for all rank.
Do you spar at your school?
Although it is not mandatory we teach sparring in a controlled progressive manner, where safety is paramount.
How long does it take to become a black belt?
There is no short cuts or easy roads to reach black belt. Time may vary according to frequency of attendance and dedication, but a student can expect to put in at least 4-5 years of consistent dedicated training to achieve the rank of black belt.
Will Martial Arts make my child violent?
Children who have a positive outlet for their energy, and who participate in activities that boost their confidence and self esteem, have proven to be less violent and more easily able to resolve conflict without fighting. The reason is that feelings of anger and inadequacy are really what is behind most violent outbursts in children. Martial Arts gives them both a release valve in a controlled environment, and the confidence to overcome any lack of self esteem.

We agree with the philosophy of Sun Tzu that the ultimate goal of any martial artist is to win the battle with out ever fighting.

Am I going to get hurt?
While it is impossible to prevent all accidents in any activity, our training methods have been thoroughly researched and have the effect of making one less prone to injury. In addition, because respect, responsibility and discipline are at the fore-front of our school, our instructors and students are very safety conscious. We are here to help you become the best version of yourself, so we take every measure possible to ensure your well being.
Do I need any previous experience? Do I need to be in shape to start?
No and no. Our goal is to help you reach your goals. We will take you from right where you are and help you get to where you want to be.
Do you teach self-defense?
We teach practical techniques that work, not theory. While we support participating in competition and believe it fosters confidence and good sportsmanship, the bottom line is our students have to be able to defend themselves.
